How to safely update firmware on all MOZA Flight products to ensure optimal performance and access to the latest features.
Important: Never disconnect power or USB during a firmware update. Doing so may permanently damage the device. Ensure your PC does not enter sleep mode during the update process.
Why Update Firmware?
Firmware updates provide:
- Performance improvements and bug fixes
- New features and functionality
- Enhanced force feedback algorithms
- Improved game compatibility
- Expanded third-party peripheral support
Before You Update
Pre-Update Checklist
- Ensure MOZA Cockpit is running the latest version
- Connect the device directly to a PC USB port (not through a USB hub)
- Verify the device is powered on and recognized by MOZA Cockpit
- Close all games and simulation software
- Disable any USB selective suspend or power-saving settings
Updating Flight Base Firmware (AB6 / AB9)
Open the Firmware Panel
In MOZA Cockpit, navigate to the flight base page. Click the firmware version number or the update icon to open the firmware management panel.
Check for Updates
MOZA Cockpit will automatically check if a newer firmware version is available. If an update is found, the new version number and release notes will be displayed.
Start the Update
Click Update to begin. A progress bar will appear. The base may restart several times during the process — this is normal. The LED indicators on the base may flash or change color.
Wait for Completion
Do not touch the device, disconnect cables, or close MOZA Cockpit until the update completes. The process typically takes 1–3 minutes. Once finished, a confirmation message will appear.
Recalibrate
After a successful firmware update, recalibrate the base by running the calibration routine in MOZA Cockpit. This ensures accurate axis detection with the new firmware.
Updating Throttle Firmware (MTQ / MTP)
The process is identical to the base firmware update. In MOZA Cockpit, navigate to the throttle page and follow the same steps. Ensure the throttle is connected directly to a PC USB port.
Updating Flight Stick Firmware (MH16 / MA3X / MFY)
Flight sticks and yokes that connect through a MOZA base do not require separate firmware updates — they are updated through the base. For standalone USB devices, check the device page in MOZA Cockpit for available updates.
Troubleshooting
The firmware update failed — what should I do?
Do not disconnect the device.
- Wait 2 minutes — some updates include automatic retry
- If still stuck, close MOZA Cockpit and reopen it
- The software should detect the incomplete update and offer to retry
- If the device is no longer recognized, try a different USB port
- If problems persist, contact MOZA Support with your device model and the firmware version you were attempting to install
MOZA Cockpit says "Device not found" after an update
Try the following in order:
- Restart your PC
- Try a different USB port (preferably USB 3.0 directly on the motherboard)
- Check Windows Device Manager for any unrecognized devices
- Reinstall MOZA Cockpit
Can I downgrade to an older firmware version?
Firmware downgrades are not generally recommended and are not available through the standard update process. If you need to roll back for a specific reason, contact MOZA Support for assistance.
