Configuration guide for IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles series and Cliffs of Dover with MOZA Flight hardware.

Telemetry Support: IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles supports telemetry force feedback through MOZA Cockpit for dynamic control forces. Cliffs of Dover functions as a standard DirectInput device without telemetry.

Great Battles Series Setup

  1. In MOZA Cockpit, select IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles from the preset dropdown
  2. Launch the game and go to Settings → Key Mapping
  3. Select Plane Controls for flight axis bindings
  4. Bind pitch, roll, and yaw to your flight base and rudder pedals
  5. Bind throttle, mixture, radiator, and propeller pitch (RPM) to throttle axes
  6. Under Settings → Pilot Head Control, bind head movement if using head tracking

Engine Management Bindings

IL-2 requires more engine management than modern flight sims. Recommended bindings for MTQ throttle:

ThrottleMain throttle axis(es)
MixtureRotary encoder or secondary axis
Radiator / Cowl FlapsRotary encoder or slider
Propeller RPMSecondary throttle axis or rotary
Supercharger StageToggle switch
Weapons / GunsTwo-stage trigger (MH16) or base button

Force Feedback Settings for Warbirds

Warbirds have direct mechanical controls — the stick should feel heavier at high speeds:

  • Spring Centering: 60–80% for a firm, responsive feel
  • Damping: 30–40% to simulate control cable resistance
  • Vibration: 30–40% for engine vibration and gunfire effects
  • Enable Telemetry FFB for dynamic control forces based on airspeed

Troubleshooting

The stick vibrates during gunfire

This is an intentional telemetry FFB effect — MOZA Cockpit translates in-game gunfire events into tactile feedback. To reduce or disable this, lower the Vibration slider in MOZA Cockpit's Force Feedback settings.

Controls feel too stiff at low speeds

If using telemetry FFB, the spring force should decrease at low speeds. If it doesn't, check that telemetry is connected in MOZA Cockpit. Alternatively, reduce the Spring Centering slider and increase Damping slightly to maintain control feel without excessive stiffness.
